The Muskoka district is of course best known for its three big, marquee lakes. These are the ones that everyone knows - Lake Rosseau, Lake Joseph and Lake Muskoka. Naturally, these lakes are absolutely stunning and their shores are lined with absolutely stunning waterfront properties.

But, the Muskoka area has so much more to offer. In total, there are some 1600 lakes that dot this incredible landscape. You’d be missing out on quite a lot if you merely focused on the big 3.

With that in mind, today we’ll be profiling four of Muskoka’s lesser-known lakes that are definitely worth a closer look.

Mary Lake

The clear, blue waters of Mary Lake are wonderfully pristine, equally prized by anglers and paddlers alike. The small community of Port Sydney can be found along the lake's southern shore along with a beautiful beach, the perfect setting for a relaxing summer afternoon.

Waseosa Lake

Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Brook Trout

Waseosa Lake is conveniently located just a few minutes north of Huntsville, one of the larger centers found in the Muskoka District. The small lake is restricted to small boats and canoes only, allowing it to conserve a pristine peace. Families have been coming here for generations and the lake even boasts its own Treasure Island in the northern section, fantastic for camping!

Kahshe Lake

Just south and east of Gravenhurst and Kilworthy sits picturesque Kahshe Lake. This lake also happens to be the fourth largest in the region, with a name that roughly translates to "Lake of Many Ducks". Long a popular cottage or vacation home destination, Kahshe Lake boasts numerous cottage properties lining its banks. Perhaps you'll find yours here too!

Three Mile Lake (Near Gravenhurst)

Three Mile Lake provides a wonderfully pristine wilderness getaway. The waters are as clear and refreshing as the stunning natural forests that surround it. The lake is located just southeast of Gravenhurst and a municipal maintenance road provides year-round access to many of the lakefront properties for owners.
