Koshlong Lake Area and Community

Koshlong Lake is a fairly secluded, mid-sized lake that borders crown land in the southern part of Haliburton County. While it’s only two hours out of the Greater Toronto Area, the nearest village of Haliburton sits over 20 minutes away, so it’s best to come prepared.

While this spring-fed lake has been stocked with lake trout since 1956, bass and perch also swim in these waters, making it a popular place to drop a line off your boat or dock.

Koshlong Lake also houses various islands that dot its surface, such as Halls Island, McLean Island, and Wallace Island.

Other lakes in the area include:

Although it’s one of the more secluded lakes in Haliburton County, there’s still lots to do and discover near Koshlong Lake. Biking, hiking, and jogging a perfect ways to explore the surrounding area, while fishing, boating, and jet-skis are a common sight on the lake.

Over winter, Koshlong Lake develops a thick layer of ice that attracts ice fishers, and the hilly terrain near the lake makes it a snowmobilers paradise.

YMCA Wanakita is located on the north side of the lake and offers day camps, family camps, and other great programs for children and families.

Koshlong Lake Waterfront Cottages

Koshlong Lake is fairly unique to the other lakes in Haliburton County due to its distinctive shape and changes in elevation.
This unpredictable terrain means that every Koshlong Lake waterfront cottage owner has their own, one-of-a-kind view of the lake, and also requires that each cottage be tailored to the specifications of the property.

Some areas have a fairly steep elevation leading out to the lake that’s perfect for cottages with walk-out basements leading directly onto the water. Others are more tapered lots that allow for wrap-around decks and views straight onto the scenic lake.

Either way, Koshlong Lake itself drops off quite steadily, so most of these properties are home to docks that plunge immediately into clear, deep water, perfect for swimming.

The cottages themselves are quite diverse, ranging from two-story, large-style properties to smaller, bungalow-style affairs.

While some properties are nostalgic, traditional affairs, many are modern cottages with upgraded kitchen appliances and spacious visiting areas, complete with fire pits, saunas, and hot tubs.

Deep, treed lots give property owners their privacy and space, while on the lakeside, grand scale landscape views of Koshlong Lake must be seen to be believed.

Koshlong Lake real estate is made up of over 200 of these distinctive, sequestered lots with lake access, yet over half the lake has yet to be developed, making this a perfect place for potential investors and homeowners to purchase a plot to build their ideal home in.
